Internal Advertisement | Staff Vacancy | Deans and Directors

Applications are invited from suitably qualified staff of the University for appointment as Deans and Directors for the following Faculties, Schools and Institute in the University of Education, Winneba:

a.   Faculty of Science Education

b.   Faculty of Foreign Languages Education

c.   School of Communication and Media Studies

d.   Directorate of Quality Assurance

e.   Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development     (ITECPD)

f.    Faculty of Liberal and Social Studies Education

The Dean of Faculty is a Senior Academic staff who reports to the Vice-Chancellor or any other person acting on his behalf.  He/she provides strong leadership and vision for the design, delivery and continuous review and assessment of all academic programmes and courses.

Responsibilities:        

Per the Statutes of UEW, the Dean of the Faculty/School shall:

  • be responsible for providing leadership to the Faculty/School and maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order of the Faculty in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • be the Chairperson of the Faculty Board and the Head of the Faculty.
  • in consultation with the Heads of Department, have the responsibility for the training of students and for the monitoring of Lecturers on study leave.
  • liaise with professional institutions, associations and similar bodies, and organise consultative committees comprising Faculty members and experts in the relevant disciplines within the Faculty.
  • liaise and cooperate with other faculties in the organization of common courses and academic programmes and research. 
  • coordinate the work of the Departments within the Faculty.
  • consult with, and be assisted by the Heads of Department in the execution of his/her duties.
  • provide leadership for raising funds for the faculty including initiating activities, events, programmes to source funding from local and international organizations to support research and other academic activities within the Faculty.

Minimum Requirements:

Staff seeking appointment as Dean/Director must:

  • be of professorial rank OR
  • have been a Senior Lecturer for at least four (4) years and have eight (8) papers after last promotion.

Mode of Application

Interested candidates are requested to submit an application letter together with the following:

  • Twelve (12) copies of Curriculum Vitae, including names and addresses of three (3) referees who would submit reports on them directly to the address below.
  • Twelve (12) copies of two-paged statement of candidate’s vision for the Faculty.
  • Indicate which Faculty/School/Institute s/he wishes to be considered for appointment.
