H. E. Akufo-Addo Charges UEW to Continue Producing Resourceful Graduates
The President of Ghana, His Excellency (H. E.) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has charged the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to continue producing graduates who are ready to take on opportunities and prospects for higher achievements.
He said that doing this through innovation and creativity in today’s science-technology-led and knowledge-driven global economy would help generate prosperity for the masses.
The President was speaking at the investiture and induction ceremony of Neenyi Ghartey VII, “Effutu Oma Odefe”, as the second Chancellor of UEW, held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba, on Friday, 21st April, 2023.
"It is my expectation and hope that the University of Education, Winneba, whose core mandate is ‘to produce professional educators to spearhead a new national vision of education aimed at redirecting Ghana’s efforts along the path of rapid economic and social development’, will continue to produce graduates who are moulded to take on the opportunities and possibilities for higher achievements through innovation and creativity in today’s science-technology-led and knowledge-driven global economy," he averred.
The first gentleman of the land expressed optimism that the next generation would rise to the top and realise the aspirations of the great patriots who liberated Ghana from British colonial rule.
"The generation whose work will give full meaning to the words of our country’s motto, freedom and justice. The generation that will build a new Ghanaian civilisation, the equal of any on the face of the planet. Let us, therefore, be up and doing for greatness beacons," he stressed.
H. E. Akufo-Addo assured UEW and all other universities in the country of the government’s steadfast commitment and continued support to achieving their missions and visions.
He expressed his elation to be the special guest of honour at the investiture and induction ceremony of Neenyi Ghartey VII.
"I am very glad to be here this afternoon at the investiture ceremony of an outstanding traditional ruler who has become the Chancellor of one of the best universities in Ghana, the University of Education, Winneba. Neenyi Ghartey VII is taking over as Chancellor from one of Ghana’s notable sons, Alhaji Asoma Banda, during whose period the university was named the third-best university in Ghana and adjudged the most sustainable university in Ghana last year.
"I thank Alhaji Asoma Banda for his service to the growth of the university. New Chancellor, I am sure you know your work is cut out for you. Nonetheless, I believe the university could not have picked the worthiest successor than Neenyi Ghartey VII. His worth of experience to ensure a seamless transition puts him in good stead to help spur the university into even greater heights," he pointed out.
The President commended the authorities of the University for the excellent choice of Neenyi Ghartey VII, who is also a firm believer in academic freedom.
"Once again, Chancellor, warm congratulations, and I wish you the very best of luck and God’s guidance in the discharge of your large responsibilities. Enjoy every bit of this moment; you have earned it," he said, wishing Neenyi Ghartey well in his endeavours.
