UEW SPED wins big at Ghana Disability Excellence Awards, 2021
The Department of Special Education (SPED) under the Faculty of Educational Studies (FES) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has emerged winner of the “Excellence in Education” award at the 2nd edition of the Ghana Disability Excellence Awards.
The annual awards ceremony recognises the outstanding achievements of persons within the disability sector who have worked tirelessly to make society a better place. It also pursues to reward organisations and individuals who have developed initiatives that are geared towards improving the lives of people with disabilities.
Don’t Transfer Fear for Maths to Children - Lecturer Advises Parents
A former Dean of the Faculty of Science Education of the University of Education, Winneba, Prof. Samuel Kwasi Asiedu-Addo, has advised parents not to transfer their fear of Mathematics to their children through their words.
He said most parents who had difficulty with Mathematics while in school tend to describe the subject with negative words thus involuntarily instilling the fear of the subject into their children.
According to him, parents should encourage their children through positive words and not tell them about their own challenges with the subject.
Interim Vice-Chancellor Meets Management for the First Time
Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, has officially met for the first time with the Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), upon being notified to act as Vice-Chancellor of the University until the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.
UEW Formalises Agreement to Train Military Officers
Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and a delegation from the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Council Chamber of UEW on Tuesday, 28th September, 2021.
The MoU gives UEW the green light to establish a Study Centre at the Ghana Military Academy and Training School, Accra-Teshie, to train military officers for their professional and personal development.

Simpa Hall JCR Executives of 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 Commission Projects
The Simpa Hall Junior Common Room (JCR) executives of 2019/2020 and 2020/2021, led by Mr. Emmanuel Fumey and Mr. John Richard Mensah, have commissioned projects at the Hall’s enclaves at the North Campus of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
The projects commissioned were the renovated Male JCR and Simpa Hall Mosque as well as the provision of two 13,500 capacity poly tanks to augment the already existing resources at the Hall.
Chairperson of TEWU-UEW Hands over
The Chairperson of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union, University of Education, Winneba Chapter (TEWU-UEW), Sis. Theresa Ackon, who is set to retire from active service on 30th September, 2021, has handed over to the Vice-Chairman, Bro. Ebenezer Ofori Atta in accord with the Union’s constitution.
The ceremony took place at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba on Friday, 17th September, 2021.
UEW Lecturers win Research Grant to Evaluate Teacher Licensure Exams
A team of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) staff has won a competitive research grant to evaluate the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE).
The team, composed of academics drawn from the Faculty of Educational Studies, the Institute of Educational Research and Innovation Studies (IERIS) and the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development (DRID) is led by Professor Samuel Asare Amoah.
