The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has hosted the first-ever Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG National) conference, dubbed "The Impact Conference," at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba.

The conference, held under the theme "Empowering Change-Makers to Create a Better World," came off on Friday, 9th June, 2023. It brought together undergraduate and postgraduate students from all over the country with representatives from the National Academy of Professional Studies (NAPS) in Australia, Trent University in Canada, the University of South Wales, Acreaty Ghana Limited, the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, and ABSA Bank Ghana.

The conference inspired and empowered young people to work to improve their communities and the world at large. Participants from a variety of fields and professions shared ideas, best practises, and recommendations on how young people could contribute in small but impactful ways to the world.

A former Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at UEW and a professor of mathematics, Prof. Samuel Kwesi Asiedu-Addo, presided over the conference on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Mawutor Avoke. He described GRASAG National's choice of UEW as an honour for the leading teacher education university in Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa.

He enumerated, among others, the amicable relationship between the student front and the university administration, management support for GRASAG and the Student Representative Council (SRC) on academic activities such as weekly research workshops, seminar series, and the annual International Multidisciplinary Conference for Postgraduate Students, as well as the friendly, well-cultured, and mature student leadership, as some of the main reasons for GRASAG National selecting UEW as the host of the impact conference.

"On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, I must say that here at UEW, there is absolute peace on all our satellite campuses, as you have witnessed since your arrival on our campus. Students, faculty, and all the supporting staff are seen going about their duties peacefully, which is healthy for academic work," Prof. Asiedu-Addo affirmed.
