UEW Explores Strategic Partnership for National Development with Bank of Ghana

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) paid a courtesy call on the Bank of Ghana on 6th February 2026, to initiate discussions on building a strategic partnership to advance national development with financial literacy and inclusion as key components.

The delegation, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, included the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Esther Yeboah Danso-Wiredu; Prof. Dandy George Dampson, Director of the Office for Institutional Advancement; Prof. Richard Oduro, Dean of the School of Business; Arc. Grace Oppong-Peprah, Director of Works and Dr. Latipher A. Osei Appiah-Agyei.

Mrs. Matilda Asante, the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, welcomed the delegation. The discussions primarily focused on establishing a sustainable institutional collaboration that harmonises academic expertise with the country’s economic priorities.

The engagement identified practical areas of collaboration through which UEW and the Bank of Ghana can jointly contribute to sustainable national development. Financial literacy, economic education and broader financial inclusion initiatives as strategic entry points for the partnership, recognising that informed citizens are critical to economic resilience and inclusive growth.

The UEW leadership underscored the University’s readiness to support national efforts through research, curriculum development, public education campaigns and community outreach initiatives. As a leading teacher education institution, UEW emphasised its unique capacity to integrate financial literacy into teacher preparation programmes, thereby cascading financial knowledge to basic and secondary schools across the country.

Discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening access to financial knowledge and resources, particularly among young people and underserved communities. Both institutions acknowledged that equipping citizens with sound financial decision-making skills enhances productivity, reduces vulnerability and contributes meaningfully to national stability and development.

The visit reflects UEW’s broader strategic vision of positioning the University as a key development partner to national institutions. In aligning academic scholarship with regulatory and policy institutions such as the Bank of Ghana, the University hopes to translate knowledge into measurable national impact.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen engagement and develop structured areas of cooperation that will advance financial literacy, strengthen institutional collaboration and support Ghana’s long-term development agenda. Through this initiative, UEW reaffirms its role not only as an academic institution but as an active contributor to national transformation.
