Prof. Adzahlie-Mensah Succeeds Prof. Nsoh as Director of IERIS
Prof. Vincent Adzahlie-Mensah from the College for Distance and e-Learning (CODeL), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has succeeded Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh as the new Director of the Institute for Educational Research and Innovation Studies (IERIS) following the latter’s retirement.
Under the tenure of Prof. Avea Nsoh, the Institute successfully recruited 13 research associates from diverse university faculties. This strategic initiative aimed to address understaffing challenges and enhance research endeavours across the Institute's numerous centres.
UEW Management Introduces New Vice-Chancellor to Neenyi Ghartey VII
The Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has introduced the new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, to the Paramount Chief of the Effutu traditional area and Chancellor of the university, Neenyi Ghartey VII.
The ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, 10th October, 2023, emphasised the bridge between the university and the local community, highlighting the university's commitment to community engagement.
UTAG-UEW President Pledges to Build a Resilient Union
The President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, University of Education, Winneba Chapter (UTAG-UEW), Mr. Stephen Osei Akyiaw, has pledged to build a resilient union by advancing the interests of the association.
He assured members that his leadership was committed to vigorously advocating for academic freedom. He said, “We believe that academic freedom is the cornerstone of every thriving higher educational system. We will strenuously defend the rights of our members in the discharge of our academic duties without fear of censorship or reprisal”.
UEW Alumna Extending the Frontiers of the Teaching Profession
Ms. Leticia Emefa Yawa Akabutoo, a graduate of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), is pushing the boundaries of the teaching profession with her array of advocacy initiatives that aim to prepare pupils/students as global citizens for life after school.
Ms. Leticia Akabutoo, a 2011 UEW graduate, has been helping learners at the primary, junior high, and senior high schools to acquire and develop 21st-century skills like media literacy, intercultural communication, financial literacy, teamwork, critical thinking, technology literacy, creativity, and global awareness.

Some of these challenges relate to episodes of underdevelopment, poverty, hunger and food crisis, and diseases, accompanied by wobbly institutional frameworks to deal with these episodes. The expectation of society is the provision of robust governance structures and guideposts. The structures and processes designed to ensure responsiveness, inclusivity, and an empowered society have not often yielded the desired results.
UEW Commissions State-of-the-Art Infrastructure to Advance Academic and Research Excellence
The Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), on Friday, 29th September, 2023, commissioned several long-standing projects on the university’s campus to bolster academic and research excellence.
The commissioned projects included a 100-bed hospital facility, two 3,000-capacity hostels, a state-of-the-art lecturer’s block complex, a commercial centre, a prefabricated three-bedroom apartment, the faculty block and water projects at Ajumako, and study centres in Accra, Cape Coast, and Techiman.
Call for Application - GOT Mobility Recruitment
The Department of Information and Communication Technology Education, UEW is calling for applications for the mobility component of the ongoing GOT project. The GOT project is a collaboration between the University of Education, Winneba, University of Cape Coast, Tallinn University, and Tampere University. The project aims at shifting lesson delivery towards data-driven and evidence-based methods to provide Digital Education at the University of Education, Winneba.
