UEW Co-operative Credit Union Elects New Board Members

Members of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Co-operative Credit Union Limited have elected Surv. John Kwaku Oppong Esq. and Dr. Evelyn Twumasi to the Union's Board of Directors following an election held at the Union's headquarters in Winneba and all branches on Thursday, 2nd July, 2026.  

The election, conducted by the University's Department of Publishing and Web Development, commenced at 8:00 am and ended at 4:00 pm without any incidents, despite an initially low voter turnout caused by early morning rainfall.

Voting was restricted to members who had attained the minimum shareholding requirement of GHȻ 600.00.

At the close of polls, 1,398 votes were cast with six ballots declared invalid.

Surv. John Kwaku Oppong Esq., the first candidate on the ballot, secured 473 votes, representing 33.8% of the valid votes while Dr. Evelyn Twumasi, the fifth candidate on the ballot, obtained 447 votes, representing 32.0%.

The remaining candidates recorded the following results: Mr. Emmanuel Botwe received 233 votes (16.7%), Dr. Amma Abrafi Adjei secured 158 votes (11.3%) and Mrs. Bliss Acheampong obtained 87 votes (6.2%).

Following the declaration of results by the Returning Officer, Surv. John Kwaku Oppong Esq. and Dr. Evelyn Twumasi were officially declared elected for emerging as the top two in the election to serve as Directors on the Board of the UEW Co-operative Credit Union Limited.

The successful conduct of the election reaffirmed the Union's commitment to transparent, democratic and orderly governance as it continues to strengthen its leadership and serve the interests of its members.
