“UEW has a Rich Legacy of Nurturing Minds” – Vice-Chancellor Assures Fresh Sandwich Students
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, has assured fresh sandwich students for the 2022/2023 academic year of UEW’s commitment to uphold its rich legacy of nurturing minds and giving students a strong foundation for both academic and personal growth.
Addressing the eager first-year sandwich students, he conveyed the profound essence of UEW as a haven not merely for education but also for empowerment, innovation, and unbridled exploration. With utmost conviction, he underscored the University Management's unwavering dedication to fashioning an environment conducive to nurturing critical thinking, catalysing research endeavours, and instilling a profound sense of social responsibility within every student.
“We are committed to instilling in you our unique brand of training and providing you with a once-in-a-lifetime educational opportunity – a source of enlightenment to inspire you to make a meaningful contribution to society,” he asserted.
The Vice-Chancellor was addressing the fresh sandwich students today, Friday, 3rd November, 2023, during a matriculation ceremony held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, UEW.
Prof. Mitchual reiterated his steadfast dedication to steering the digital transformation of UEW, amplifying the robust groundwork laid by his predecessors. He emphasised not only the imperative of keeping in stride with the breakneck pace of technological progress but also the institution's aspiration to lead the way in adopting digital solutions, for the collective enhancement of its students, faculty, and staff.
“In the immediate future, you will witness the launch of a new university website that will serve as a gateway to a wealth of information and services. This website will be a user-friendly platform designed to enhance communication, accessibility, and the overall digital experience of our university community. It will be a hub for information, resources, and opportunities, ensuring that you have easy access to everything you need to thrive in your academic journey,” he averred.
He articulated the management's commitment to simplifying administrative procedures for the students' utmost convenience. He assured the students of the forthcoming launch of an online transcript request system designed to provide them with a seamlessly efficient means of accessing their academic records. This, he stressed, would substantially diminish the time and effort typically associated with acquiring transcripts, thus affording students the precious opportunity to channel their energy and time into their studies and personal development.
“In addition, we understand the significance of English Language Proficiency Requests, particularly in an academic environment as diverse as ours. We will introduce an online platform for these requests, making the process more accessible for all our students. This will ensure that language proficiency requirements are met with ease, and it will enhance the experience of international students who choose to study at our institution and alumni who also choose to continue their education elsewhere,” he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor pointed out management’s readiness to harness the power of technology to provide students with cutting-edge educational resources, online libraries, and digital learning tools to assist them in excelling in their academic pursuits.
Prof. Mitchual urged the first-year students to take advantage of the opportunities and resources at their disposal. He entreated them to actively participate in class discussions, network with their lecturers, and seek out mentorship.
“The relationship you build with your peers and faculty members will be instrumental in your academic and personal growth. Our diverse community is a source of strength, and it is through collaboration and dialogue that we grow and learn,” he advised.
