UEW Celebrates the Tagoe Sisters' Gospel Legacy with a SoundFlames Tribute

The Department of Music Education at the School of Creative Arts (SCA) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has honoured Ghana's legendary gospel duo, the Tagoe Sisters, with a special edition of its SoundFlames musical performance in recognition of their enduring contribution to gospel music and the nation's creative arts industry.

Held at the forecourt of the SCA on Friday, 10th July, 2026, the event, themed Life, Music and Legacy of Legendary Gospel Music Duo, Tagoe Sisters, blended live musical performances with engaging storytelling to celebrate more than four decades of the duo's inspirational ministry and influence.

The UEW Pop Band captivated the audience with electrifying renditions of the Tagoe Sisters' timeless classics, transporting patrons through the musical journey that has made Lydia Deedei Tagoe and Elizabeth Korkor Tagoe household names in Ghanaian gospel music.

Complementing the performances, Ms. Vivian Baah Agyeman Badu presented a compelling narration of the sisters' remarkable journey from their childhood in Dunkwa on Offin to becoming internationally acclaimed gospel ministers. She recounted their early passion for music, breakthrough with the release of “Nyame Yɛ Kɛse,” overcoming personal tragedy and their rise to become one of Ghana's most celebrated gospel groups.

The narration also highlighted the duo's global ministry, award-winning career and commitment to using music as a tool for worship, encouragement and evangelism while acknowledging their role in mentoring younger gospel musicians and shaping the country's gospel music landscape.

The climax of the evening came when the Department of Music Education presented the Tagoe Sisters with a citation and commemorative plaque in appreciation of their outstanding contributions to gospel music and their lasting impact on generations of musicians and music lovers.

Receiving the honour, the Tagoe Sisters expressed profound gratitude to the University for recognising their life's work, describing the tribute as both humbling and encouraging. They commended the Department of Music Education for preserving Ghana's rich musical heritage by celebrating icons whose works continue to inspire faith, hope and excellence.

The SoundFlames series remains one of the Department of Music Education's flagship performance platforms, using music, scholarship and creative storytelling to celebrate distinguished personalities whose contributions continue to shape Ghana's musical and cultural heritage.
