Abstract

The study investigated the correlation between in-service training (INSET) programmes and teacher performance in public basic schools in the Upper-Denkyira East Municipality of Ghana. Based on a positivist paradigm, the study utilized a descriptive correlation survey design with 220 teachers selected through proportional stratified sampling. A questionnaire was used to collect data, and the analysis done using means and standard deviation, product moment correlation, and multiple regression. It was found that teachers participated in all the common in-service training programmes and performance of teachers was found to be very good. The correlation result showed significant positive relationship between in-service training and teacher performance. Also, the regression results revealed that collectively, INSET programmes predicted teacher performance which was statistically significant. Consequently, the Upper-Denkyira East Municipal Education Directorate should among others prioritize in-service training initiatives to the needs of teachers and for their improved performance.
