Biography
Professor Emmanuel Obed Acquah is an Associate Professor in music rising through the ranks from Lecturer, to Senior Lecturer, and to the current rank within a time frame of eight years of teaching and professional work at the University. He trained as a professional teacher at Komenda College after he had completed Mando Secondary School. As an alumnus of the University of Education, Winneba with First Class Honours in Music Education, he won the best graduating student of the University of Education, Winneba, an award, given by Unilever Ghana Foundation in 2002. He holds a PhD degree in Arts and Culture (Music) from the University of Education, Winneba, after pursuing his MPhil degree in music from the University of Ghana, Legon. He has a professional standing and accomplishments with regards to his external visibility as external examiner for some local and international Universities, Chief Examiner for West African Examinations Council, and the Secretary-General for the Ghana National Association of Music Teachers (GMTA). As an Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of African Arts and Culture, and as an Associate Reviewer, he has used his experience to mentor many young scholars; academically and professionally. He is involved in writing and reviewing books, monographs, and executive manuscripts, including curriculum development for schools and colleges. Professor Acquah has traveled for many international conferences and contributed immensely to scholarship in Music and Music Education.
As a scholar in the creative arts, he has published extensively across the musical arts, both in reputable Local and International academic journals. He has to his credit over 60 publications, both sole and co-authored, including discographic publications and creative works.
Professor Acquah has led many academics in the development of Arts and Culture, as well as, Creative Arts programmes in the University of Education, Winneba, and served as a consultant for same for some academic institutions in Ghana and Nigeria. Professor Acquah has represented the Vice-Chancellor as chair and guest speaker on countless occasions in and outside the University.
His expertise which compliments his intellectual and professional profiles concerns his leadership position in the University. He has been a coordinator, academic counsellor, examinations officer and Head of Department for the Department of Music Education. Professor Acquah became the Director for Quality Assurance of the University of Education, Winneba in 2020 where he gave a new face to the academic audit trail in the University. He has been a member, chaired many committees in the University of Education, Winneba and belongs to a number of Professional Associations.
He is currently the Dean of School of Creative Arts of the University of Education, Winneba.
