Brief History
The history of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Education programme is a compelling narrative that traces society’s evolving understanding of the crucial link between human health and the environment, from ancient civilizations to the present day. Established in the 2021/2022 academic year at the University of Education, Winneba campus, the programme aims to cultivate knowledgeable and skilled educators. These professionals are prepared to effectively communicate essential concepts related to environmental health and sanitation, educating communities and stakeholders on the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The curriculum emphasizes practices and policies that support environmental sustainability and public health, incorporating technology, public awareness campaigns, community engagement, and climate change considerations to foster sustainable practices and resilience in addressing environmental challenges.
The BSc. Environmental Health and Sanitation Education programme is designed to continuously adapt to emerging issues such as plastic pollution, air quality, and the broader concept of planetary health. By addressing these critical concerns, the programme seeks to promote a healthier future for individuals and the planet.
The Department aspires to become a Centre of Excellence for training, research, and dissemination of information on sustainable environmental health practices and sanitation behavioural change.
