About Us

Laboratory

The Environmental Health and Sanitation Education department is under the Faculty of Health, Allied Science and Home Economics Education.  The department was established in the 2021/2022 academic year with the aim to prepare students to become knowledgeable and skilled educators. Educators who can effectively convey critical concepts related to environmental health and sanitation to educate communities and other stakeholders on the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment, as well as the practices and policies that contribute to environmental sustainability and public health. We hope to achieve our aim through:

  • Providing students with knowledge and skills critical to environmental health and sanitation education
  • Equip students with effective communication skills for health promotion and hygiene sensitization
  • Equip students with practical skills for analyzing water quality, waste segregation, and basic sanitation infrastructure maintenance
  • Train students to assess and evaluate environmental health education programs to measure their impact and make continuous improvements
  • Train students to be able to design and implement behavioral change interventions and programmes

The Department aspires to become a Centre of excellence for training, research and dissemination of information on sustainable environmental health practices and sanitation behavioral change through evidence-based practices, advocacy, and the development of informed and responsible citizens.
