The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, has urged the newly elected leadership of the University’s branch of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG-UEW) to uphold integrity, accountability and responsible leadership in serving postgraduate students.

He gave the advice on Tuesday, 20th October, 2026, when the GRASAG-UEW leadership called on him and the Registrar, Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo, at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.

Prof. Mitchual cautioned the executives against decisions that could undermine the Association’s credibility, particularly in financial management. He urged them to comply with the University’s regulations and exercise sound judgement in their responsibilities.

He also emphasised that true leadership is measured by its positive impact on others rather than personal recognition, urging the executives to build a legacy that commands respect long after their tenure.

“The university is for us all. In fact, without you, we have no job to do,” he said, stressing that the progress of UEW depended on the collective efforts of management, staff and students.

Prof. Mitchual assured the executives of Management’s support and encouraged them to use the appropriate administrative channels to address their concerns. He reiterated his willingness to engage with them on issues requiring his attention and called on them to conduct themselves in a manner befitting members of an academic community.

The Registrar, Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo, urged the executives to familiarise themselves with the University’s rules and regulations, particularly those governing postgraduate students, financial administration and official communication.

She also asked the Association to formally nominate its representative to the University Council to facilitate the necessary appointment procedures. She stressed the importance of maintaining proper records to ensure continuity and build on the achievements of successive leadership teams.

Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo further encouraged the executives to verify information and address concerns through constructive dialogue rather than relying on rumours. She noted that decisions should be based on facts and the best interests of the University.
