UEW Graphic Design Students Unveil Digital Display to Enhance SCA Visibility
Five final-year Multimedia students from the Department of Graphic Design at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), have developed a digital LED display to improve information dissemination and showcase the creative works of departments within the School of Creative Arts (SCA).
The project, part of the students’ final-year project, is designed for installation at the School’s reception. It provides visitors, prospective students and members of the University community with information on the programmes offered by SCA. The display will also serve as a digital platform for exhibiting creative works including motion graphics, animation and 3D designs, activities and events.
Speaking at the unveiling, Prof. Emmanuel Obed Acquah, the Dean of SCA, commended the students for developing a project that reflected the School’s creative character and capabilities. He expressed appreciation to the lecturers and supervisors who guided the students through the design and development process and urged the students to carry the innovative spirit beyond the University by applying their skills to solve practical problems in society.
Prof. Acquah encouraged the students not to regard the project merely as an academic requirement but as a foundation for greater creative achievements in their professional careers.
Alhaji Prof. Joseph Essuman, the Project Supervisor and professor at the Department of Graphic Design, said the project was developed to fulfill the information, promotional and exhibition requirements of the School. He elaborated that the students engaged in comprehensive research, consulted with pertinent stakeholders, and adhered to the various stages of the design process prior to producing the final display.
According to Prof. Essuman, the display was designed to accommodate additional content, enabling the School to upload and project works produced by other students and to schedule different content for display at specific times.
Adjoa Korantema Asante, a member of the project team, said the initiative was intended to help freshers and prospective students better appreciate the programmes and creative activities within SCA. She noted that some fresh students may not be familiar with the various departments and creative disciplines within the School. The digital display provides a convenient way to introduce them to these offerings.
Lloyd Dansel, another team member, said the proposed location at the School’s reception would make it an accessible information point for visitors and the wider University community. Parry Nkensen and Samuel Agyei Dani, integral members of the team, corroborated the statements made by their colleagues on the project.
The project demonstrates the practical application of Multimedia and Graphic Design skills to an institutional need while creating a sustainable digital platform for information dissemination, promotion and exhibition of creative works. Its installation at the SCA reception is expected to strengthen the visibility of the School and give students greater opportunities to share their creative output with a wider audience.
