Metabolites from static cultures of the fungus Xylaria badia

The culture medium of the fungus Xylaria badia was examined for metabolites. Two cyclic compounds were characterised after isolation and purification. The two compounds are 5-Hydroxy-4-methoxy-6-methyl-7-oxa- bicyclo[4,1,0]hept3-en-2-one and 2-(hydroxymethyl)-6-[(8-hydroxy-l-naphthyl)oxy] tetrahydro2H-pyran-3,4,5-triol. This is the first report of the isolation of these compounds from the fungus Xylaria badia.
