UEW Strengthens Community Partnership with Support for Effutu Farmers’ Day
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to the Effutu community by presenting a Motorking tricycle towards the 2025 Farmers’ Day celebration.
The gesture, led by the Registrar, Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo, forms part of the University’s philosophy of promoting community engagement and collaborative relationships with its host municipality.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo emphasised that the donation reflects UEW’s dedication to supporting local development and recognising the invaluable role farmers play in national progress. She noted that offering such support has become a tradition that strengthens the ties between UEW and the Effutu community.
“It is the university’s practice that we support the community during the Farmers’ Day celebrations with a token,” she stated.
According to the Registrar, the University remains committed to deepening its partnership with the people of Effutu. She stressed that both institutions share a common vision of contributing to societal growth and improving the lives of community members.
Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo expressed confidence that although the donation may be modest, it would serve a meaningful purpose in enhancing the celebration and motivating local farmers. “Though small, we hope that it will be used to bring about greater results,” she said while officially handing over the support package to the assembly’s representatives on behalf of management.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Effutu Municipal Assembly (EMA), Ms. Victoria Nutefe Anku, Administrative Assistant at the Information Services Department, commended UEW for its support over the years. She highlighted that the University’s contributions, particularly its provision of a tricycle used as the ultimate award for the Best Farmer, have significantly boosted the annual celebration.
“On behalf of the Chief Executive of the Assembly and the Coordinating Director, we want to say thank you to the University for the continuous support. This is not the first time. For the tricycle, this is the third year running,” Ms. Victoria Anku said.
She further noted that the tricycle has become a highly anticipated and prestigious prize among local farmers. “It is the ultimate award we give to the best farmer and we are happy that the University has decided to always honour the best farmer for Effutu,” she emphasised.
Ms. Victoria Anku also assured UEW of the Assembly's continuous acknowledgement of the gesture and publicise the University’s contributions to stakeholders and residents. She described the gesture as a demonstration of the University’s commitment not only to academic excellence but also to community empowerment.
“We will communicate same to the people of Effutu so they know that the University does not only seek to produce the best brains for Ghana but also supports the community in which they work. We are grateful and God bless the University,” she concluded.
The presentation underscores UEW’s commitment to its philosophy of service, partnership and contribution to national development. As an institution mandated to train educators and professionals for the country, UEW continues to integrate community engagement into its core operations, positioning itself as a key development partner within the Effutu municipality and beyond.
