UEW Marks Leadership Transition with Handing Over of Registrar and Internal Auditor Offices
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Tuesday, 30th September, 2025, held a brief ceremony to officially hand over the office of the Registrar and the Internal Auditor to newly appointed substantive officers.
The event, held at the Council Chamber, North Campus, Winneba, marked a significant transition in the University’s administrative leadership.
Delivering the purpose of gathering, Mr. Steve van Kamassah, Deputy Registrar of the Division of Publications and Communication, emphasised the importance of the occasion, noting that the gathering was both to “appreciate the sacrifices and the work of the Acting Registrar” and to “instill in the incoming Registrar the values and systems left behind for a smooth transition.” He also highlighted the handing over of the Acting Internal Auditor’s position to the newly substantive auditor.
Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor, reflected deeply on the inevitability of leadership transitions, underscoring that “as long as we are human, it is only God who lives forever.” He called for greater inclusion of all staff including junior staff in such milestone occasions, citing their invaluable role in supporting the University’s day-to-day activities.
A high point of the ceremony was the presentation of a citation to Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah, the outgoing Acting Registrar. The citation celebrated Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah as an outstanding administrator and a trailblazer who has dedicated over 30 years of her career to promoting higher education in UEW and Ghana. She has spearheaded critical initiatives such as the establishment of the Personnel Section, now the Division of Human Resource, and was a pioneer in gender mainstreaming within the University. The citation described her as “a model of professionalism and a cornerstone of progress at UEW.”
Management members took turns to pay glowing tributes to Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah, acknowledging her mentorship, integrity and visionary leadership. They highlighted her instrumental role in policy development, capacity building and her mentorship of younger members of the University community, particularly women.
The incoming Registrar, Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo, expressed humility and gratitude for the opportunity to serve. She paid tribute to her predecessors and mentors, stating that she had learned invaluable lessons from seasoned administrators including Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah. “I look ahead to the future with trust in the abilities and grace that God grants,” she said, pledging to uphold high standards and to count on the support of senior members to advance the work of the Registry and the University at large.
The newly appointed Internal Auditor, Mr. Charles Coffie also gave assurances of working collaboratively with all departments to strengthen internal controls and protect the interests of the University. “Internal audit is not a policing unit; we are partners in the development of our university,” he stressed.
In his closing remarks, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated his commitment to transparent leadership transitions and institutional strengthening. He urged all staff to work as though they were “doing it unto God,” emphasising that the foundation laid by outgoing officers should serve as a springboard for the University’s future growth.
The ceremony ended on a hopeful note, with management and staff resolving to continue building on the legacy of integrity, professionalism and innovation that has defined UEW’s administration over the years
