UEW Inaugurates Seven Council Committees

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) inaugurated seven key Council Committees on Thursday, 14th August 2025, at the University's Council Chamber to enhance governance, efficiency and service delivery in line with its statutory mandate.

The newly formed committees, which include Finance, Development, Superannuation, Appointments and Promotions Board, Professional Advisory, Grant Steering and Appeals Board, will assist the University Council in policy development, oversight and decision-making to support UEW's vision of becoming an internationally renowned institution for teacher education and research.

Justice Jacob Charles Amonoo-Monney, Chair of the UEW Council, praised members for their willingness to serve and described their role as vital to creating a positive environment for teaching, learning and research. Referencing the UEW Act 2004 (Act 672), he reaffirmed the university's core objectives such as training competent teachers at all educational levels, fostering professional skills and strengthening school-community connections for holistic teacher preparation.

“The human factor is very important in all institutions. We must treat each other as human beings and perform our duties with integrity so that we fulfill the purpose for which we have been called here to serve,” he stated. He urged members to apply their expertise diligently, abide by their oath of office and contribute to the development of UEW and Ghana at large.

Justice Amonoo-Monney also advised the committees to familiarise themselves with the university's statutes and terms of reference to ensure their discussions and recommendations align with institutional goals.

Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah, Acting Registrar of UEW, announced that a detailed schedule of meetings had been prepared for all committees to guide their work. She noted that this schedule would be communicated to members through their respective secretaries to ensure smooth operations.

The inauguration marks another milestone in UEW's ongoing commitment to strengthening governance, fostering accountability and advancing its mission to train competent professional educators and contribute to educational policy and development in Ghana and beyond.
