Biography
Biography:
Raphael Ane Atanga is a lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba in Ghana, and a Research Associate at the School of Tourism and Hospitality, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Previously, he served as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Johannesburg. Raphael earned his doctoral degree from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the Technische Universität Dresden (Germany), a master’s degree in Geography from Brock University (Canada), and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Resources Development from the University of Ghana, Legon (Ghana). His academic background is in human geography, with a research focus on climate change impacts and development, food security, resilience, and environmental risk management. Throughout his career, Raphael has taught courses in his areas of expertise at various institutions in developed and developing countries. He has mentored over 100 undergraduate and graduate students, providing supervision and guidance in their academic journeys. His extensive publication record includes peer-reviewed articles on resilience in flood risk management, climate change impacts, food security, gender in climate change adaptation, and sustainable community-based tourism in Sub-Saharan Africa. He has gained international experiences through studies, research, and conferences in both the global North and South. Raphael has received numerous scholarships and research grants. He serves as a reviewer for international peer-reviewed journals. He is a team player who has participated in several research projects, including climate change education and women's adaptation to climate change impacts in rural communities. His collaborative work with international researchers, policymakers, and local communities has equipped him with valuable cross-disciplinary teamwork experience. Passionate about his research interests, Raphael is eager to collaborate with scholars, practitioners, and policymakers worldwide on issues related but not limited to climate change, community-based tourism, environmental risk and human security.
