Professor Hanson, Ruby
Biography
I am a professor and past dean of science at the University of Education, Winneba. I am also a former Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor. I received my Ph.D. in Chemistry Education from the same university and completed a master programme in analytical and environmental chemistry (toxicology) at the University of Cape Coast. My research focuses on the design of interactive approaches to enhance students’ conceptions through sub micro chemistry activities and the integration of systems thinking, engineering and the social sciences into chemistry curricula to inculcate into learners, principles that will help to mitigate humanitarian challenges. I recently have won four grants from the American Chemical Society (ACS) that are geared towards whipping up young rural children between the ages of 10 to 15 years’ interest in chemistry. I have since won other grants including ERASMUS grants towards Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE). and AfricaFinnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) Grants for the Implementation of Professional Learning Communities in Selected African Countries: Implications for Policy and Practice Grant 5; Window 3. I have over 115 publications in the forms of books, chapters in edited books, journal articles and conference proceedings. My research trajectory demonstrates both deep field impact and consistent productivity. In the niche field of Chemistry Education Research (CER)—which operates on the smaller citation scales typical of the social sciences, I have established a robust pipeline of work evidenced by a Google Scholar h-index of 15 and an i10-index of 27.
