Prof. Botchwey, Gabriel K. A

I have a background in Politics and International Studies (PhD, University of Leeds, UK, 2012); Development Studies (MA, Institute of Social Studies, ERASMUS University Rotterdam, 2003); Law (GIMPA/KAAF Ghana, 2021); Religions with Sociology (University of Ghana, Legon, 1999); Education (University of Cape Coast (PGDE 2001). My previous work experience includes roles such as Socio-Economic Development Officer, Project Consultant, Project Officer with various organisations.

My areas of academic expertise include Politics and International Studies; Development Studies (with specialization in Local and Regional Development), and Law. Courses I have taught include Development Planning, International Political Economy, Politics of International Economic Relations, Decentralization and Local government, Public-Private Partnerships, Business Law; Research Methods, Globalisation and Development, Theories of Development, Contemporary Development Studies, Introduction to the Study of Political Science and  related courses at the University of Education, Winneba (Ghana: 2013-2022), University for Development Studies (Ghana: 2012-2013), and University of Leeds, UK (part time while studying for PhD: 2008-2011).

My areas of research expertise include legal issues regarding funding and monetization of politics; natural resource extraction and the state; environment and climate change; public expectations in local governance; e-governance; social policy issues regarding education (school feeding and local food production), social welfare (elderly, income security and pension, informal sector workers); legal issues concerning compulsory acquisition of land by the state, unjust enrichment, legal education and related areas.

I am currently working on monetization of politics, youth employment, blue economy and ocean governance in the context of international law.
