UEW SRC Commissions Student-Centred Projects to Enhance Welfare and Sustainability
The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has launched several projects to enhance student welfare, promote environmental sustainability and support institutional development at the University.
The projects, unveiled during a commissioning ceremony held at the forecourt of the Students Centre on Friday, 5th June, 2026, include an LED digital screen, dustbins and CD wash station to be deployed across the University's campuses. The SRC Financial Support Account was launched at the event to assist students facing financial challenges.
Prof. David Naya Zuure, the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Liberal and Social Studies Education and Chairperson of the ceremony, commended the SRC leadership for demonstrating visionary and results-oriented leadership.
He noted that the projects reflected a commitment to service, accountability and lasting impact. He added that the Council had distinguished itself by transforming ideas into tangible initiatives that would continue to benefit students beyond its tenure.
Prof. Esther Yeboah Danso-Wiredu, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UEW, congratulated the SRC on its contribution to the University's development agenda. She described the LED digital screen as a strategic investment that aligns with the University's drive towards a paperless communication system.
According to her, the facility will improve information dissemination while reducing paper consumption and waste generation, thereby supporting environmental sustainability efforts.
Dr. Vivian Acquaye, the Vice-Dean of Student Affairs, also lauded the SRC for its proactive approach to addressing student welfare concerns. She indicated that the initiatives demonstrated the capacity of student leadership to contribute meaningfully to institutional growth and urged other student groups to emulate the Council's example.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ebenezer Annobil, the SRC President, said the projects were inspired by the Council's vision of service, innovation, compassion and sustainability. He explained that the SRC Financial Support Account was established to assist students experiencing financial difficulties, medical emergencies and other unforeseen challenges.
Mr. Annobil noted that the LED screen would also serve as a revenue-generating asset by providing advertising opportunities for student entrepreneurs, campus programmes and corporate organisations. He stated that proceeds from the facility would be channelled into student welfare interventions, support for students with special needs and other developmental initiatives.
He further announced the launch of the "Agenda Clean UEW" campaign, under which 50 dustbins have been procured for deployment across the University's campuses to promote environmental cleanliness and healthy living. He called on students to take collective responsibility for maintaining the facilities and ensuring the initiative's success.
The ceremony culminated in the official commissioning of the LED digital screen, dustbins, CD wash station, and the operationalisation of the SRC Financial Support Account.
The projects are expected to significantly enhance student welfare, improve environmental sanitation and contribute to the University's efforts to create a more sustainable and student-friendly learning environment.
