UEW Chaplaincy Seeks Divine Guidance for 2025/2026 Academic Year
The Chaplaincy Board of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Saturday, 24th January, 2026, organised a Day of Prayer and Fasting at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, to commit the 2025/2026 academic year to God.
The spiritual exercise brought together members of the University Management, staff, students and chaplaincy leaders to seek divine guidance, protection and prosperity for the institution and its community as the new academic year begins.
The programme opened with a welcome address by the University Chaplain, Rev. Dr. Joseph Nana Annan, followed by an opening prayer led by Ms. Gifty Osei-Bonsu. The service also featured praises and adoration by the Students’ Chaplaincy Committee, setting a reflective and solemn tone for the day’s activities.
Special prayers were offered for the nation, the University and the UEW community. Pastor Jonathan Duodo led prayers for Ghana; Dr. Samuel Poatob prayed for UEW while Pastor Isaac Apaw led intercessions for families and personal lives of staff and students.
Delivering a message on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emma Sarah Eshun, Director of Quality Assurance, emphasised the importance of placing God at the centre of the University’s plans as it embarks on a new academic journey. She noted that the Day of Prayer and Fasting was a deliberate decision by Management to seek divine direction, protection and success for the institution.
Quoting Matthew 6:33, Prof. Emma Eshun underscored Management’s conviction that seeking God first would set the right foundation for academic excellence, growth and institutional stability. She described the prayer exercise as a “seed sown” which fruit would manifest in the lives of staff, students and the University as a whole, expressing confidence that the 2025/2026 academic year would be marked by progress and prosperity.
She further urged members of the UEW community to sustain the spirit of prayer beyond the event, encouraging them to continually pray for themselves, lecturers, Management and the entire University. According to her, collective commitment to prayer would ensure divine guidance and success throughout the academic year.
In his remarks, Rev. Dr. Joseph Nana Annan, the University Chaplain, admonished students to cultivate the habit of living consciously in the presence of God throughout the semester. He cautioned against unhealthy associations and unverified campus activities, advising students to seek guidance from campus pastors, patrons and patronesses whenever in doubt.
Rev. Dr. Annan stressed that discernment and accountability were crucial to students’ spiritual and academic wellbeing, urging them to be cautious about groups and activities that could negatively influence their lives and studies. He also expressed gratitude to the University Management, clergy and facilitators who contributed to the success of the programme.
The Day of Prayer and Fasting formed part of UEW’s broader spiritual support system aimed at fostering moral discipline, unity and holistic development within the University community.
