UEW SCA Pop Band Thrills Audience at President Mahama’s 67th Birthday Celebration

The 67th birthday of the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, was marked in grand style on Sunday, 30th November 2025, during a colourful thanksgiving service at the Assemblies of God Church Headquarters, Ringway, Accra.

The ceremony, attended by national leaders, clergy, family and well-wishers, was distinguished by a strong artistic presence from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), whose musical performance became one of the day’s defining highlights.

The UEW School of Creative Arts (SCA) Pop Band took centre stage as the sole band for the occasion, delivering masterful performances that captivated the congregation and infused the service with uplifting energy. Their flawless renditions, marked by creativity, precision and artistic depth, drew admiration from dignitaries and attendees alike, reinforcing UEW’s reputation as a leading authority in creative and performing arts education. The band’s musical excellence added a unique cultural flavour to the Thanksgiving celebration.

UEW’s presence at the event was further strengthened by a high-powered delegation led by Prof. Esther Yeboah Danso-Wiredu, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and included Prof. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, Principal of the College for Distance and e-Learning; Prof. Emmanuel Obed Acquah, Dean of the School of Creative Arts and Prof. Osuanyi Quarcoo Essel, Vice Dean of the School.

Also in attendance were Mr. Steve van Kamassah, Deputy Registrar at the Division of Publications and Communication; Prof. Mark-Millas Fish, Head of the Department of Music Education; Mr. Stephen Osei Akyiaw, President of UTAG-UEW and faculty members Dr. Augusta Arko-Mensah and Dr. Benjamin Oduro Arhin Jnr., among others.

A memorable moment occurred when the UEW delegation joined President Mahama in cutting his birthday cake—an act symbolising the University’s warm wishes, goodwill and solidarity on the historic occasion.  

UEW’s participation, especially the artistic brilliance displayed by the SCA Pop Band, left a lasting impression on the President and the congregation. The celebration offered a powerful showcase of the University’s creative talent and affirmed its status as Ghana’s premier institution for arts and teacher education.

The Thanksgiving event concluded with heartfelt tributes, music-filled joy and renewed expressions of gratitude—made all the more memorable by UEW’s distinguished contribution to the President’s milestone celebration.
