UEW Strengthens Campus Safety with Graduation of New Security Recruits
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) graduated 32 new security recruits following a comprehensive four-week intensive training programme. This initiative was specifically designed to enhance campus safety and to establish a secure environment conducive to academic excellence.
The graduation ceremony, held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre Car Park on Friday, 29th August, 2025, brought together university officials, facilitators, guests and the families of the graduates. One officer and 31 recruits completed the training which covered discipline, emergency response, ethical conduct and campus protection protocols.
Sqn. Ldr. Daniel Kwaku Sapey (Rtd.), Director, Security Directorate, expressed appreciation to the University Management for its steadfast support, leadership and dedication to campus security.
“Your ongoing investment in the professional development of our security personnel demonstrates your understanding of the vital role security plays in fostering a safe and conducive environment for academic excellence,” he said, urging the recruits to uphold integrity, vigilance and professionalism in their service.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, Principal of the College for Distance and e-Learning, commended the recruits for their discipline and perseverance.
“You have demonstrated not only physical endurance and mental toughness but also a willingness to uphold the values of integrity, service and vigilance. As you step into your roles, remember that you carry the trust of the entire university community,” he stated.
The ceremony included the presentation of awards to distinguished recruits. Benjamin Impraim was recognised as the Overall Best Recruit and also received the award for Best in Drill. Additionally, Benjamin Annan Mensah was honoured for achieving the Best in Academic distinction. In the realm of physical training, Samuel Buabeng was awarded for excellence in the men's category while Victoria Armah received the corresponding award in the women's category.
Ms. Angelina Asieduwaa extended gratitude on behalf of the recruits to the University leadership, training coordinators and guests for their support.
The event emphasised UEW’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment for teaching, learning and research by equipping its security personnel with the necessary skills and discipline to safeguard the university community.
