UEW Intensive Security Training for New Recruits Commences
A four-week training programme for newly recruited security personnel began on Monday, 4th August 2025, at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), with an opening ceremony that set the tone for a journey centred on discipline, hygiene and service excellence.
Mr. James Silvah, Assistant Registrar at the Division of Human Resource, highlighted the importance of familiarising oneself with key University figures, such as the Vice-Chancellor, to ensure respectful and professional service.
He encouraged the recruits to approach the opportunity with seriousness, emphasising the rarity of such employment due to limited government clearance. He called for unity, professionalism and a strong sense of duty in protecting lives, property and maintaining peace on campus.
The programme, scheduled to conclude on Friday, 29th August 2025, is designed to provide both theoretical and practical instruction. In the first week, recruits received a presentation on Housekeeping and General Appearance from Sqn. Ldr. Daniel Kwaku Sapey (Rtd.), who stressed cleanliness, punctuality, orderliness, proper grooming and good hygiene as essential elements of professional conduct.
Practical sessions included physical drills, access control and customer care. In the forthcoming weeks, training will cover report and occurrence writing, communication techniques, search and observation, fire prevention and the use of extinguishers, on-duty patrolling and guarding, code of conduct and discipline, security policies of UEW, code words, call signs and assembly points, elevator rescue procedures, vehicle searches and permit checks, and first aid training.
The programme will culminate with a written and practical examination during the final week to assess each recruit’s readiness to serve professionally and confidently.
This initiative reaffirms UEW’s commitment to ensuring campus safety through the continuous development of well-trained, disciplined and customer-focused security personnel.
