Biography
Prof. Godfred Safo-Adu obtained a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a Master of Philosophy degree in Environmental Science from the University of Ghana, Legon. He joined the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), in 2016 as an Assistant Lecturer. He was confirmed as a Lecturer in 2018 and was promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 2020. He obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Environmental Engineering and Management from the Regional Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani, from 2021 to 2024, supported by a World Bank scholarship. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2025. Currently, he serves as the Head of the Department of Environmental Health and Sanitation Education at UEW. He is a Youth Editorial Board Member of the Explora: Environment and Resources, and an External Assessor to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani. Previously, he served as a Postgraduate Coordinator and an Examination Officer for the Department of Agricultural Science Education and Environmental Science, UEW. He worked as a Process Plant Chemist at Zeal Environmental Technologies and a Process Plant Supervisor at Zoil Services Limited, an Integrated Oily Waste Treatment Facility in the Western Region of Ghana, for over four years. At Zoil, he won the award for Best Worker in 2015. He has published in reputable peer-reviewed journals at the local and international levels in the field of Environmental Science and Engineering. He was the Team Lead for the committee that developed the BSc Environmental Science, BSc Environmental Health and Sanitation Education, MPhil Environmental Science, and MSc Environmental Safety and Management programmes. He is a reviewer for several journals, including Cleaner Waste Systems, Elsevier, Soil and Sediment Contamination, Taylor & Francis, Discover Public Health, Discover Environment, and Discover Atmosphere, all published by Springer. He has a profound interest in conducting socio-scientific research to drive policy initiatives and promote environmental quality and human well-being.
