Admission to the Doctor of Philosophy in Biology Education Programme

The School of Graduate Studies invites qualified candidates to apply for its full‑time, three‑year Doctor of Philosophy in Biology Education programme. This doctoral pathway is designed for individuals who aspire to lead and innovate in the teaching and research of biological sciences at all educational levels.

Programme Streams

Applicants in possession of the following qualifications may be admitted to the programme:

  • Stream 1: MPhil/Research MSc in Biology Education

  • Stream 2a: MPhil/Research MSc in Applied Biology (e.g. Environmental Science Education, Agricultural Science Education, Applied Biological Science Education, Science Education with Biology components)

  • Stream 2b: MPhil/Research MSc in Biology without an education component, but having an education component at the undergraduate level, or a Diploma in Education qualification.

Applicants holding master’s degrees from recognised and accredited institutions overseas may apply; their qualifications will be assessed by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). Candidates from non‑English‑speaking backgrounds must provide evidence of proficiency in English.

Admission Requirements

  1. Academic Records: Certified copies of all undergraduate and master’s transcripts and degree certificates.

  2. Research Proposal: An original outline of the intended doctoral research (maximum four A4 pages).

  3. Motivation Statement: A statement detailing the applicant’s reasons for pursuing a PhD in Biology Education (maximum three A4 pages).

  4. Referee Reports: Two confidential reports from academic or professional referees.

  5. Proof of English Proficiency: Where applicable for nationals from non‑English‑speaking countries.

All applications and supporting documents will be rigorously assessed by the School. Successful candidates will receive formal written notification and must present originals of all documents upon registration.
