Master of Arts in Translation Studies
Description
- The MA Translation programme is designed to equip the students with the requisite skills in translating relevant national documents and interpreting texts in English (lingua franca) into the various indigenous Ghanaian languages for effective and efficient communication. Additionally, the programme seeks train concerned workers at state institutions such as the Courts, National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), the Media, etc. to be equipped with the necessary advanced knowledge and skills to interpret texts of national relevance to the speakers of various indigenous Ghanaian languages to empower the populace for an active participation in nation building and national development.
Prospects/Career Options
Graduates of the Translation Studies programme will have the opportunity of being employed as translators and interpreters by the Local Government Service (e.g. The law courts interpreters, District information officers, the NCCE and National Commission on Culture), Bible Society, Parliamentary Services, Diplomatic Missions, and Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT). They can also enter the private sector in the translation and interpretation services organizations, or into self-employment as professional translators and interpreters.

Entry Requirement
The applicant must satisfy the following:
a. have a bachelor’s degree in language, linguistics or related area.
b. pass an admission interview where necessary.
