Overview

The MISSION of University of Education, Winneba (UEW) is to “train competent professional teachers for all levels of education …” pursuant to this, Simpa Hall which is located at the North of the University campus will provide a conducive abode for students which will enable them acquire the necessary academic proficiency, professional competence and humanistic values for teaching.

Brief History

Simpa Hall was established out of five independent Halls of the former Specialist Training College (STC), now the North Campus of University of Education, Winneba. The former Halls were Simpa Hall, a purely female Hall; Yankah, Eddie, Independence and Essah Halls, all male Halls of Residence.

With the establishment of the erstwhile University College of Education of Winneba, the low student numbers in each Hall posed organizational and administrative problems to Hall authorities. To make the Hall administration easier and more cost effective, all the Halls on the North Campus were initially merged into two independent halls, namely Simpa, still a female hall, and the Amalgamated, which was a male hall. In the 1996/97 academic year, the two halls were again merged into a single hall under its present name – Simpa Hall.

In all, the Hall has five blocks namely, Block A solely for females and Blocks B, C, D, and E for males.

Currently, the Simpa Hall accommodates 537 students which includes persons with disabilities.

The slogan for the Hall is “Custodians” and the response is ‘‘We Stand for Greatness’’
