2025/2026 Academic Year Student Leaders Undergo Training
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) through the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs (ODSA) has organised a two-day leadership training workshop for newly elected and appointed student leaders for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The capacity-building programme was designed to equip student leaders with the requisite knowledge, skills and ethical grounding to effectively support university governance and contribute to peaceful campus administration.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Charles Assuah, Dean of the Centre for International Programmes, emphasised the critical role of student leadership in promoting discipline, unity and academic excellence. He urged the leaders to exercise responsibility, integrity and restraint in the discharge of their duties, noting that effective leadership was central to maintaining stability within the university community.
Prof. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, Dean of Student Affairs, underscored the rationale behind the training, explaining that the workshop was to familiarise student leaders with the university’s governance structures, administrative procedures and leadership expectations. He encouraged the leaders to see their roles as service-oriented and guided by accountability rather than authority.
Prof. Sarpong reiterated that leadership within the university framework required transparency, humility and adherence to established procedures. He advised the student leaders to communicate effectively, respect institutional authority and act as credible representatives of UEW.
He expressed appreciation to the facilitators and participants for their commitment and assured the student leaders of the continuous support of the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs throughout their tenure.
The training sessions covered key areas including leadership ethics, financial management and accountability, hall administration, security consciousness, student records management, effective communication and engagement with university management.
