Welcoming participants, Prof. Rosemary Quarcoo underscored the importance of ensuring that course delivery remains consistent with approved accreditation documents. She noted that the collaborative approach would enable the Department to harmonise contributions from all lecturers before commencing the formal re-accreditation process to ensure that its programmes remain relevant, responsive and compliant with national quality assurance standards.

A presentation by Dr. Michael Amoh Asiedu of the UEW Accreditation Unit equipped participants with practical guidance on the University's accreditation processes and the use of the Electronic Management Information System (EMIS) for programme accreditation.

Dr. Asiedu highlighted common reasons GTEC declines accreditation applications including inadequate justification for programmes, lack of uniqueness, inappropriate programme titles and failure to align programmes with the University's mandate. He urged departments to design innovative curricula that respond to emerging trends and integrate contemporary developments such as Artificial Intelligence and technology to enhance programme relevance and competitiveness.

He further explained that all programme accreditation processes are now undertaken through the EMIS platform, stressing the need for accurate staff profiles, complete programme information and adherence to established procedures to facilitate successful accreditation. He also demonstrated how departmental users could initiate and manage programme re-accreditation applications through the system.

The workshop forms part of the Department's commitment to maintaining high academic standards and ensuring that its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes continue to meet national quality assurance requirements while equipping students with contemporary knowledge and skills for the evolving clothing and textiles industry.
