FSE-UEW Receives Agricultural Equipment to Enhance Research and Teaching
The Faculty of Science Education (FSE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has received a donation of modern agricultural equipment to enhance teaching, research and practical training in soil and environmental science.
The donation, valued at over GH₵52,000, was made by Dr. Kwabena Kyere, a lecturer at the Department of Agricultural Science and Environmental Science Education and Coordinator of the University Farm. The items include a laser leveller with GPS technology and a smart soil testing kit to support academic work and infrastructural development within the Department.
Presenting the equipment, Dr. Kyere explained that the donation formed part of his professional responsibility as a lecturer at the University. He noted that the equipment would significantly improve practical instruction, research activities and students’ understanding of soil science, particularly through hands-on learning at the University farm.
Dr. Kyere further disclosed that the equipment was secured with support from the Ghana Scholars Society in the United Kingdom, an association of Ghanaian professionals committed to supporting educational development in Ghana. He added that the Society is spearheading collaborative initiatives between UEW and its members with more support expected in the future.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Faculty, Prof. Arkoful Sam, the Dean of FSE, expressed appreciation to Dr. Kyere, describing the gesture as timely and strategic. He stated that the equipment would strengthen research and make the teaching of soil science more practical and accessible to students, thereby enhancing the faculty’s academic output.
Also speaking at the presentation, Prof. Benjamin Ghansah, the Vice-Dean of FSE, commended Dr. Kyere for his commitment to the development of the University. He noted that the donation would positively impact the Department and the Faculty as a whole while encouraging similar initiatives to support UEW’s mission of excellence in teaching, research and community service.
