M.Phil. Home Economics Education
Description
The M.Phil. Home Economics Education programme focuses on developing high-level research competencies. It prepares graduates for academic, policy, and research roles within education and allied sectors. This programme promotes innovation, scholarly inquiry and evidence-based practices in Home Economics.
The programme aims at training highly qualified Home Economics graduates to work in tertiary institutions and other organizations, hold management positions and conduct research in Home Economics, to make the programme more beneficial to the nation.
Entry Requirement
i. A candidate seeking admission into this programme is required to obtain a B.Ed. Home Economics degree or BSc. Home Economics Education from the University of Education, Winneba or an institution recognized by Ghana Tertiary Education Commission with a grading not below Second Class Lower Division. Candidates with B.A. or B.Sc. Home Economics/Home Science/Family and Consumer Science from any other universities recognized by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission should in addition to their Bachelor’s degree have a Diploma in Education or Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
ii. M. Ed/MA/M. Tech Top Up To MPhil
A candidate with 12 calendar months/two sandwich sessions of MA or M. Ed or M. Tech programme in Home Economics/Home Science/Catering and related areas can be admitted to pursue the M.Phil. Home Economics Education programme. Such candidates may be required to complete the programme in 12 calendar months.
Progression
A student must pass all taught courses before being allowed to proceed with the thesis.
Graduation
The minimum credit required for graduation is 57 and the maximum credits is 63, comprising the following:
i. taught courses and Seminars making a total of between 36-42 Credit Hours.
ii. Thesis of 21 Credit Hours.
