UEW-ICT Student Develops AI Applications for Inclusive Education
The Department of ICT Education at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has taken a bold step in promoting student-led innovation with the unveiling of pioneering artificial intelligence (AI) applications designed to revolutionise learning in Ghanaian classrooms.
At the recently held Techabilities Experience on Saturday, 30th August, 2025, the spotlight was on Mr. Godfred Asibu Franklyn, a Level 300 ICT Education student, whose registered startup, Sua Pa AI, is building AI-powered solutions to address pressing challenges in education. Franklyn introduced two flagship applications that are set to transform the learning experience in Ghana and beyond.
The first innovation, the Artificial Intelligence for Visual Impairment (AIVI), is a desktop-based AI assistant designed to support visually impaired learners. Through features such as voice control for navigation, braille conversion, access to essential system tools like Microsoft Word and web browsers and AI-powered tutoring, the system empowers visually impaired students to access digital resources with independence and confidence. More than an assistive technology, AIVI serves as an enabler of inclusion, ensuring that no learner is left behind in the digital age.
Complementing this is the Sua Pa AI Desktop Students' Companion, a versatile platform that enriches both teaching and learning. The system provides personalised study support with interactive modules and real-time feedback that incorporates culturally relevant content tailored to Ghanaian learners and equips teachers with advanced tools for lesson planning, quiz generation and progress monitoring. It enhances student outcomes while enabling teachers to deliver more impactful lessons, bridging traditional instruction with modern AI capabilities.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Delali Kwasi Dake, Head of Department, praised the Techabilities Experience as a platform to celebrate and nurture student innovation. He encouraged young people to embrace entrepreneurship as a way of solving real-world problems and stressed the importance of collaboration between academia, industry and society in scaling student-led innovations into sustainable solutions with real impact.
The event attracted an enthusiastic audience of students, faculty and community leaders whose applause and cheers at the official launch of Sua Pa AI reflected a deep sense of pride and optimism. The atmosphere was charged with inspiration as participants celebrated the bold steps being taken by young innovators to transform education through technology.
With this milestone, UEW has once again underscored its role as a hub for innovation where students are not only prepared for the job market but also empowered to create solutions that redefine the future of education.
