SCA-UEW Launches Income Generation Plan to Drive Financial Sustainability

The School of Creative Arts (SCA) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has taken a bold step towards securing its financial future by launching an income generation plan.

The initiative, aimed at harnessing the creative potential of students and faculty, is expected to generate revenue, reduce dependence on government funding, and position the school as a hub of creativity and entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the launch, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor of UEW, emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation in education, stressing that academic programmes should equip students with practical skills and knowledge to become independent and employable. He commended the School of Creative Arts for taking the lead in this initiative, citing its potential to become a model for financial sustainability in Ghana's tertiary education sector.

Prof. Emmanuel Obed Acquah, Dean of SCA-UEW, outlined the objectives of the income generation plan, which include maximising revenue from creative works, supporting academic excellence, and institutionalising a culture of entrepreneurship. He highlighted the school's rich talent pool, showcasing students' and faculty members' works in music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and design.

Prof. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, Principal of the College for Distance and e-Learning, commended the initiative, stating that it aligns with the university's vision of fostering creativity and innovation. Dr. Mrs. Augusta Arko-Mensah expressed gratitude to all who made the event a success, including the Vice-Chancellor, management members, faculty, staff, students, and corporate partners. She emphasised the importance of unity and collective effort in driving the plan forward.

The launch featured an impressive exhibition of students' and faculty members' creative works, including sculptures, paintings, textiles, graphic design and animations. The event also included captivating performances by the Winds Band and the African Ensemble, demonstrating the school's diverse creative talents.

The income generation plan is expected to have a significant impact on SCA's financial sustainability, enabling it to invest in its academic programmes, infrastructure, and human resources. With this initiative, SCA is poised to become a centre of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship, producing graduates who are equipped to succeed in an increasingly competitive and fast-paced world.
