Call for Abstracts - 4th Annual Colloquium, Department of Political Science Education

The Department of Political Science Education at the University of Education, Winneba, invites abstract submissions for its 4th Annual Colloquium.

Theme:
Politics, the Environment, and Our Common Future: Ghana at a Crossroads?

Strategic Context

Ghana is at an inflection point. Despite vast natural resource endowments, the country faces escalating environmental threats—illegal mining (galamsey), deforestation, climate change impacts, coastal erosion, and unsustainable waste systems. These are not just environmental issues; they are governance and political economy challenges.

This colloquium is a high-level, solutions-focused forum to examine these realities and move beyond rhetoric toward actionable policy outcomes.

Objective

To catalyse a national, multi-stakeholder dialogue that aligns political decision-making with environmental sustainability and delivers practical, implementable policy recommendations for Ghana’s future.

Priority Focus Areas

Submissions are invited in (but not limited to) the following thematic areas:

  • Political Economy of Natural Resource Management
  • Climate Change, Vulnerability, and National Policy
  • Traditional Authority & Local Governance in Environmental Stewardship
  • The Politics of Urbanisation and Waste Management
  • Pathways to a Just and Green Economy

Contributions that demonstrate policy relevance, empirical rigour, and actionable insights will be prioritised.

Target Participants

This is not a closed academic exercise. The platform brings together:

  • Traditional authorities and community leaders
  • Academics and researchers
