UEW Appoints Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo as New Registrar
The Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has appointed Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo as the substantive Registrar.
Her appointment takes effect from 1st October 2025. In accordance with the University’s Statutes, a Search Committee submitted its report to the University Governing Council which subsequently appointed Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo as Registrar.
With over 20 years of progressive experience in higher education administration, Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo brings extensive institutional knowledge and a proven leadership record to her new role. Having joined UEW in 2002, she has advanced from Senior Administrative Assistant to Deputy Registrar, demonstrating competence in areas such as human resource management, academic affairs, examinations and student services.
In her new capacity, Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo will act as the University’s chief administrative officer. She will oversee the Registry, ensuring the effective implementation of decisions made by the Governing Council and Academic Board and provide strategic leadership in governance, human resource management and institutional policy. She will also assist the Vice-Chancellor in promoting efficiency, accountability and innovation within the University’s administrative functions.
Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, a Master of Education in Educational Administration and a Bachelor of Education in Social Sciences, both from the University of Cape Coast.
She has authored numerous scholarly articles and policy papers that have influenced UEW’s governance and HR practices. She has also served as Secretary to various statutory and ad hoc committees including the Appointments and Promotions Board, the Academic Board, the Appointments and Promotions Committee, the Timetable Committee, the Faculty Board and the Academic Planning Committee, among others.

She holds a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management (2009) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a Master of Education in Educational Administration (2007) Administration and a Bachelor of Education in Social Sciences (2000), both from the University of Cape Coast (UCC), qualifications that has equipped her with the strategic and managerial tools to lead effectively.
Her secondary education at Mfantsiman Girls Secondary School and Aburaman Secondary School where she obtained GCE Advanced and Ordinary Level certificates, instilled in her the discipline and rigour that continue to guide her professional ethos. Mrs. Ekua Abedi-Boafo began her career at University of Education, Winneba in 2002 as a Senior Administrative Assistant where she established a strong foundation in Human Resource and Registry operations. Her competence and professionalism earned her consistent promotions—Assistant Registrar in 2008, Senior Assistant Registrar in 2014 and Deputy Registrar in 2021.
She made notable contributions at each stage of her advancement. Serving on a number of key schedules within the Registry deepened her knowledge of the operations in the Higher Education landscape. As a Senior Staff, she handled several schedules in the then Personnel Section until her promotion to Assistant Registrar when she took up the Senior Member Schedule. She was transferred to the Faculty of Science Educational Studies where she served as the Faculty Officer. Her career as a University Administrator also took her to Simpa Hall as a Hall Manageress. At Academic Affairs, she served as the Head of the Examinations Department and also doubled as the Deputy Registrar at some point. Currently, she serves as the Deputy Registrar in charge of the Division of Human Resource. She has made significant contributions to the University through the achievements she made in handling these roles. These milestones enhanced her expertise in Human Resource, student services and academic affairs, preparing her for her current leadership role.
