UEW Honours Highlife Legend Pat Thomas at Upcoming “SoundFlames” Event

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) continues to strengthen the bridge between academia and Ghana’s music industry as a delegation from the Department of Music Education of the School of Creative Arts (SCA) paid a courtesy call on legendary Highlife musician Pat Thomas.

The delegation, led by Prof. Mark-Millas Fish, the Head of Department, formally invited the celebrated musician to the Department’s flagship programme, “SoundFlames,” an initiative to celebrate and honour distinguished Ghanaian musicians whose contributions have shaped the growth and evolution of popular music in Ghana.

Receiving the delegation, Pat Thomas expressed appreciation to the Department of Music Education and the School of Creative Arts for the recognition. He commended the initiative and emphasised the importance of stronger collaboration between academia and industry players to advance Ghana’s music landscape.

Speaking on behalf of the department, Prof. Fish thanked the Highlife icon for accepting the invitation and described the upcoming event as a significant moment for the University and Ghana’s creative arts industry.

He noted that the programme would not only celebrate the enduring legacy of Pat Thomas but also inspire young musicians, researchers and students to appreciate the historical and cultural value of Ghanaian Highlife music.

The highly anticipated event, themed “Life, Music & Legacy of Pat Thomas: The Golden Voice of Africa,” is scheduled for Friday, 12th June, 2026, at the forecourt of SCA, Central Campus of the UEW, at 7:00 p.m.

The University community and the general public are expected to witness an unforgettable evening celebrating one of Ghana’s most influential musical icons.
