The manipulation of spiritual capital in Ghanaian political discourse and its implications

This paper examines spiritual capital and its embodiments of political manipulation. It presents a rethink about the relevance of religion in the public domain. The discussion takes us through the various historical appropriations of spiritual capital as practised in the Ghanaian public domain. The paper seeks to examine the extent to which harsh economic situations motivate resorting to religious ideas and credentials. The continuous appropriation of sacred metaphors in secular politics, I claim, is linked to a complex set of interlinked social, political, and religious events in society.
