Description
- The Programme aims at:
- Providing cutting-edge terminal research degree in Basic Education with specialisations in English Language, Mathematics, Science, Religious and Moral Education, Information, Computer and Technology, and Social Studies to meet the manpower requirements of Ghana Education Service, Colleges of Education, and other public institutions and Non-governmental organisations.
- Producing excellent terminal degree teacher educators for the various levels of basic education and personnel for effective management and supervision of the sectors of education in Ghana

Graduates of the programme stands the chance of job opportunities to teach in various Colleges of education and other tertiary institutions in the country that offer degree programmes in basic education and related subjects.
Graduates can also be employed at the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Governmental agencies, non-Governmental organisations, etc.
Target Group
The programme is intended for:
- University academic staff or faculty members with M.Phil. or M.Ed in Basic Education programmes or any education related programmes.
- Academic staff of Colleges of Education and other Tertiary institutions whose staff offered M.Phil. or M.Ed in Basic Education programmes
- Directors and staff of Ghana Education Service with M.Phil. and M.Ed in Basic Education or any education related programmes
Entry Requirement
- Applicants must have a relevant Master’s degree in Basic Education from the University of Education, Winneba or a recognized University, preferably in English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Religious and Moral Education, and Information, Computer and Technology.
- Applicants must have at least three years of full-time school and/or work in relevant professional areas in education.
- Applicants must pass a selection interview organized by the Department of Basic Education of the University of Education, Winneba.
- Applicants must demonstrate potential for research through the writing of a research proposal and seminar presentations submitted to the Graduate School as part of the application procedures.
