UEW Alumni Usher in a New Era with Constitution and Digital Platform
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Alumni Association has promulgated its constitution and launched the UEW Global Alumni Network App, ushering in a new era of strengthened governance, digital engagement and global connectivity among its members.
The initiatives were taken during the Association's congress, held at the Students Centre Seminar Room III on Saturday, 25th July, 2026. Members unanimously adopted the constitution as the Association's supreme governing document and officially unveiled a digital platform to improve alumni registration, communication and service delivery.
Prof. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, Chairman of the Reconstitution Committee and Principal of the College for Distance and e-Learning, described the occasion as a defining moment in the Association's history. He stated that the constitution would provide a firm foundation for transparent leadership, accountability, effective decision-making and sustainable institutional growth.
He explained that the document defines the Association's vision, mission, governance structures and operational procedures while safeguarding members' rights and responsibilities. According to him, the constitution would also enhance the Association's credibility in building partnerships with government, development partners and other stakeholders.
Prof. Duku urged members to study, uphold and defend the constitution. He stressed that its success would depend on faithful implementation.
"A constitution is just paper and ink until we give it life. Read it, know your rights and responsibilities, respect it and let it be the final authority in our affairs," he charged.
Delivering the state of the Association's address, Dr. Samuel Ofori Danquah, Interim President of the UEW Alumni Association, announced the commencement of a comprehensive re-registration exercise through the newly launched Global Alumni Network App to establish a credible and reliable database of members.
He disclosed that the University's alumni population exceeds 700,000 and noted that the new digital platform would enable the University and the Association to obtain accurate data for policy development, alumni engagement and institutional planning.
Dr. Danquah further announced the establishment of an alumni call centre to support graduates in following up on requests requiring University intervention. He revealed that the service had already successfully handled nearly 300 cases.
He called on alumni across the world to register on the platform and actively participate in strengthening the Association.
"The old is gone. The new has come. Let us go out there and invite more people and tell them the good news that the UEW Alumni Association has a new face," he said.
Providing legal guidance on the constitution, Mr. John Kwaku Oppong Esq. said the document had undergone thorough legal review to ensure consistency with the Constitution and laws of Ghana.
He advised members to regard the constitution as the authoritative guide for the Association's operations and encouraged them to resolve disputes through the internal mechanisms established under the new constitution before resorting to litigation.
Mr. Oppong urged members to familiarise themselves with the document and uphold its provisions to promote unity, accountability and effective governance within the Association.
The congress concluded with the official launch and live demonstration of the UEW Global Alumni Network App. This will enable members to begin registering on the platform and signal a new chapter in the Association's digital transformation and global engagement.
