B.Ed Performing Arts
Description
Aim
The programme aims at training the required human resource needed for the effective implementation of the new Performing Arts curriculum. It will also concern with training creative thinkers and responsible citizens for cultural and artistic development of Ghana. It is an essential programme for nurturing and empowering creative talents and expressions in Ghana.
Objectives
The B.Ed Performing Arts programme is set to:
- prepare students to exclusively teach the performing arts subject enshrined in the senior high school curriculum.
- prepare students for quality research in the performing arts and related fields.
- inculcate in students the requisite knowledge and practical skills for the challenging demands of the performing arts.
- develop students understanding of the nature and processes in performing arts practice.
- prepare students to fit into various aspects of the economy.
- prepare students in the promotion of cultural activities in schools and communities.
- give students the requisite knowledge to apply performing arts in the promotion of the SDGs.
- improve students understanding of key concepts in creative arts policy formulation and implementation.
Intended/Expected Outcomes:
- Students graduating from the Performing Arts Education programme are expected to:
- develop pedagogical skills and acquire in-depth knowledge to teach concepts in Performing Arts at the SHS level of education.
- venture into entrepreneurial and small business management to set up their own businesses in order to provide employment for themselves and others.
- venture into production and marketing of Performing Arts business.
- develop their analytical abilities in resolving problems in Performing Arts
- exhibit understanding of the nature and processes in performing arts practice.
- develop professional knowledge in Performing Arts to provide consultancy services to industry and educational institutions.
- apply knowledge of Performing Arts in the promotion of the SDGs.
- demonstrate requisite knowledge and practical skills for the challenging demands of the performing arts.
- promote cultural activities in schools and communities.

Entry Requirement
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
These requirements are to be met in addition to the other programme-specific requirements in the admission brochure on uew.edu.gh/admissions
BACHELOR’S PROGRAMMES
WASSCE Holders
- Must have at least, six (6) WASSCE Credit passes A1-C6 including three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies, as well as
- Three (3) Electives in relevant subjects with a total aggregate of 36 or better.
- Must also satisfy Special Programme requirements for programmes chosen.
SSSCE/ABCE/GBCE Holders
- Six passes A-D in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; Integrated Science or Social Studies.
- At least three (3) of the passes must be relevant to the area of specialization.
School Certificate/GCE Holders
- Five 5 credits at GCE “O” Level, including English Language and Mathematics as well as
- Two 2 “A” Level passes other than General Paper in relevant subjects
Diploma Holders
Must possess a Diploma or Higher National Diploma (HND) from an accredited institution.
Applicants
Applicant should be at least 25 years of age by September with a minimum of GCE/ SSSCE/WASSCE/ DBS or RSA/TVET Certificate. He/she must also have at least 2 years working experience in the relevant area.
Applicant should also pass the General Aptitude Test (GAT) and Subject Area Test (SAT) to be organized by the University.
