SCMS-UEW Receives Book Donation on African Communication Perspectives
The School of Communication and Media Studies (SCMS) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has received five copies of the book “Communication and Social Change in Africa: Selected Case Studies.”
The donation, made on Thursday, 3rd July 2025, was spearheaded by Dr. Theodora Dame Adjin-Tettey, one of the book’s co-editors and a passionate advocate for accessible African scholarship.
Receiving the books on behalf of the School, the Dean of SCMS, Prof. Albert Agbesi Wornyo, expressed deep appreciation to the editors and authors. “We are very grateful to the authors for this kind donation. This contribution will enrich our library and serve as a valuable resource for students, researchers and faculty,” he remarked.
Speaking on behalf of her co-editors, Dr. Manfred Asuman and Prof. Modestus Fosu, Dr. Theodora Adjin-Tettey explained that the donation, supported by the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) and the MacArthur Foundation, is part of a broader initiative to make African-centred communication research accessible to institutions across Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa. “This book creates a platform for African scholars to challenge dominant narratives from the Global North and advance the decolonisation of education,” she stated.
She noted that the book brings together rich case studies, reflective essays and original research focused on communication, media and social change in the African context. “UEW was selected because of the potential impact this work can have on its communication programmes. We are also open to future collaborations with UEW faculty and students,” Dr. Theodora Adjin-Tettey added.
The editors also encouraged students and communication practitioners to download the e-book version, which is freely accessible online to deepen their understanding of communication as a tool for behaviour change grounded in African realities.
