UEW Marketing Students Demonstrate Entrepreneurial Excellence
On Tuesday, 19th August 2025, students from the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) showcased a variety of innovative Made-in-Ghana products designed to address everyday problems while promoting culture and sustainability.
The exhibition, held at the School of Business car park, exhibited a range of items from natural beauty products to eco-friendly household goods. The projects demonstrated both originality and a commitment to practical solutions.
The event officially began with opening remarks from Rev. Samuel Affran, Head of the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, who commended the students for their ingenuity and encouraged them to continue blending cultural heritage with modern business solutions. He emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship education in shaping Ghana's future and praised the initiative as a platform for practical learning.
Team Adinkra has introduced the Adinkra Shea Butter product line, which comprises three distinct variants: Rose Essence, Original and Mint Essence. This formulation combines shea butter with coconut oil, honey and natural essences, effectively softening the skin, promoting healthy hair and providing protection against harsh ultraviolet rays, while also honouring Ghanaian heritage.
Likewise, Team Africoal has launched the Sankofa Yenkyi Africoal Toothpaste, a safe and child-friendly dental care option available in flavours such as strawberry and banana. This toothpaste is designed to naturally whiten teeth and enhance the brushing experience for children, thereby making oral hygiene more enjoyable.
Innovation also extended to household care. Team Armor presented Quick Armor WC Disinfectant, made from natural ingredients such as vinegar, lemon and sodium bicarbonate. Specially designed for washrooms, it fights bacteria, eliminates odour and comes with an additional paper soap for hygiene on the go.
In the same spirit, Team Dherj launched Eden Powdered Fabric Softener, Ghana’s first locally made powdered softener. Biodegradable and skin-friendly, it dissolves easily in water without residue, providing a safer alternative to chemical-based liquid softeners. Lifestyle and artistry were not left out. Ambiglow Candles stood out for their multipurpose use, providing fragrance, relaxation and even mosquito protection with eco-conscious packaging designed for reuse.
Level 200 students from other departments also exhibited striking artworks from portraits and paper-based models to recycled furniture made from car tires, showcasing creativity, sustainability and resilience.
In addition to products, students also ventured into digital solutions. The MEDEES Student Hostel Platform was introduced as an online service to help UEW students find safe, affordable accommodation without stress. With instant booking confirmations, landlord protection and user-friendly access via web, WhatsApp and QR codes, it promises to transform hostel acquisition for the university community.
Collectively, these innovations highlight the ingenuity of UEW marketing and entrepreneurship students, as well as the institution’s role in fostering practical entrepreneurship. Combining tradition, technology, and sustainability, these student-led projects not only address real-world challenges but also demonstrate that the next generation of Ghanaian entrepreneurs is already emerging in Winneba.
