UEW Donates Computers to Ark-City Link Foundation
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Monday 22nd January, 2018 donated four computers to Ark-City Link Foundation, a charitable foundation which provides internet service to schools in less deprived communities in the Effutu Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana.
The Director of Quality Assurance Directorate, Associate Professor Yaw Ameyaw, presented the four computers to the Foundation on behalf of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, UEW, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni. In his presentation, he indicated that the UEW shares in the vision of the charitable foundation to reach out to the less deprived communities in the Effutu municipality in assisting to provide computer training and internet service.
He said “it formed part of the corporate social responsibility of the University to support less-endowed communities in the University vicinity.” He asked that “the facility be put into good use so that it serves its educational purpose.” He warned that the foundation monitors the pupils in the use of the facility so that they would not become a destructive tool.
In response, a representative of the Executive Director of Ark-City Link Foundation, Mrs. Phyllis Nti-Ackah, showed appreciation to the University for the kind gesture. She used the occasion to call on other corporate bodies to come to the aid of the foundation in its bid to provide support to child education.
Art-City Link Foundation is a foundation that was established seven years ago to train Primary and Junior High School (JHS) pupils in computer and internet services. The centre assists schools, teachers and the entire community of the Effutu municipality who are without computer laboratories or centres in computer training and internet service.
As part of their activities they also organize quizzes every six months in collaboration with the Effutu Educational Directorates to broaden the knowledge of these individuals who visit the centre.
