Inculcate the Right Attitude for Academic Work – Deputy Registrar tells Students

“The essence of university education is to enable students to develop critical minds to explore opportunities that come their way and this requires inculcating the right attitude to learning”

These were the words of the Deputy Registrar in charge of Academic Affairs, Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah to fresh students enrolled on the Distance Education Programmes at the Southern Sector orientation ceremony held on Saturday, 13th August, 2016 at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre. Mrs. Tete-Mensah, who welcomed participants to the orientation programme on behalf of the Registrar of the University of Education, Winneba, Dr. C.Y. Akwaa-Mensah said distance education has made higher education accessible to all, especially to women. She noted that it was for that reason that the University of Education, Winneba was committed to enhancing distance education provision in Ghana.

The programme which marked the second “on campus intensive orientation programme” for fresh distance education students of the Institute for Educational Development and Extension (IEDE) had in attendance an estimated number of over 3000 students.

Students were taken through various topics including Time Management, Financial Obligations and Available Support, Channels of Communication, ICT in Distance Education, Tutorials/ Challenges and Counselling Services, Rules and Regulations and the General Overview of the Distance Education Programme.

Speakers included the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Prof. Fr. Anthony Afful-Broni, Prof. Francis Owusu Mensah of the Institute of Educational Development and Extension, the Systems Administrator, Mr. Nicholas Donkor, Head of Finance at IEDE, Mr. Albert S. Cromwell, Snr. Assistant Registrar of IEDE, Mr. Jerry Addison Anyan, Assistant Registrar, Examinations, Mr. Charles Denkyi, and the Coordinator of Post- Graduate Studies, Dr. Wisdom H. Hordzi.
