Department of Home Economics Interacts with Students

As part of the annual scheduled activities of the Department of Home Economics, an interactive session has been held for students to help them acclimatize to the 2016/17 academic year. The interaction which was held on 7th September, 2016 at the forecourt of the department building brought together 500 students from both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

In his opening statement, the Dean, Faculty of Science Education, Associate Professor Samuel Asiedu- Addo urged students to take their studies serious and be committed to the studying of the course they have enrolled on. He stressed on the need for the students to make use of the faculty seminar series which is held regularly for staff and students aimed at building the confidence of the presenters and also sharpen their research skills and capacities.

In her welcome address, the Head of Department of Home Economics, Madam Katumi Comfort Madah noted that such forms of interactions have been in existence since the inception of the Department and has contributed enormously towards the preparation of students for their academic life in the University. She added that over the years, feedback from the students have shown that such interactions are of tremendous benefits to them.

Students were taken through a number of topics including student grooming, sanitation, campus relationship, delay in child birth, feeding on campus, meeting with academic counsellors, exams/ results, registrations, academic work and many others.

Present were the former Head of Department of Home Economics, Ms. Ophelia Quartey, the Coordinator for Postgraduate programmes, Professor Phyllis Forster, Lecturer on Sabatical in the Management in Living Unit, Professor K. Soyebo, Lecturer on Sabatical in Clothing and Textiles Unit, Prof. Adetoun Amubode, Head of Clothing Production & Clothing and Textiles Units, Mrs. Victoria Ghunney, Lecturer, Foods Unit and in charge of library, Ms. Evelyn Payin, Head of Food Production Unit, Mrs. Adwoa Nyantakyiwaa Amoah, the Departmental Examinations Officer, Madam Priscilla Yabah Ackah, the Faculty Examinations Officer, Mrs. E. Lani Ashong and other Staff of the Dept.
