Job Vacancies at the Commercial Units of GUSSS, UEW Branch
It is announced for the information of the University Community, and the general public of job vacancies at the commercial units of GUSSS, UEW Branch. The GUSSS, UEW Branch therefore invites applications from suitably qualified Ghanaians to fill the underlisted vacant positions in GUSSS Hostel 1, GUSSS Hostel 3 and GUSSS Commercial Centre:
- Managers (2 vacancies i.e.,1 each for GUSSS Hostel/Hall 1 & 3)
- Accountants/Bursars (2 vacancies i.e.,1 each for GUSSS Hostel/Hall 1 & 3)
- Accounts & Stores Officers (2 vacancies i.e.,1 each for GUSSS Hostel/Hall 1 & 3)
- Administrative Assistants (2 vacancies i.e.,1 each for GUSSS Hostel/Hall 1 & 3)
- Front Desk Managers & Intelligence Officers (12 vacancies i.e.,6 each for GUSSS Hostel/Hall 1 & 3)
- Artisans: Plumbers (2 vacancies i.e.,1 each for GUSSS Hostel/Hall 1 & 3)
- Artisans: Electricians (2 vacancies i.e.,1 each for GUSSS Hostel/Hall 1 & 3)
- Artisans: Carpenters (2 vacancies i.e.,1 each for GUSSS Hostel/Hall 1 & 3)
- Security Guards at GUSSS Commercial Centre (4 vacancies)
- Cleaners at the Hostels/Halls and Commercial Centre (16 vacancies i.e.,7 each for GUSSS Hostel/Hall 1 & 3 and 2 for GUSSS Commercial Centre)
The duty post for all the positions above is UEW, North Campus, Winneba.
1.Hostel/Hall Managers
- Job description and reporting line: The Manager shall be the head of the hall and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the hall. He/She shall be responsible for all occurrences in the hall and shall superintend over all activities at the hall. He/She shall be the Accounting Officer, vote holder and spending officer at the hall and be answerable to/report to:
- The Dean of Students through the Hall Council on issues or matters concerning students affairs (including students governance, welfare, wellbeing, and discipline) and
- The GUSSS Administrator through the Head of the GUSSS Secretariat on finances, accounting, facility management, repairs & maintenance, regulatory & compliance, general administration as well as employee relations and management (including employees’ welfare, wellbeing, and discipline) and all other issues at the hall.
- Qualification/Experience: The prospective hall manager must have at least a bachelor’s degree as well as a two-year masters degree in management, administration, hospitality, accounting, finance, home economics, economics, social sciences, nutrition/public health, or any related discipline with at least 6 years relevant post-masters degree working experience. A relevant professional qualification shall be an added advantage.
- Benefits and conditions of service: For its Commercial Units, the GUSSS, UEW Branch operates with the Scheme of Service and the Conditions of Service for UEW Commercial Services for the purpose of determining employee benefits and conditions of service. These shall apply to the Hall Manager.
2.Hostel/Hall Accountants/Bursars
- Job description and reporting line: The Hall Accountant or Bursar shall be the head of finance, accounting, and stores at the hall. He/She shall keep proper books of account and prepare periodic financial reports and financial statements for submission to the GUSSS Administrator through the respective Hall Manager and the Head of GUSSS Secretariat. He/She shall supervise all accounting and stores staff. He/She shall act as the head of the hall in the absence of the Hall Manager.
- Qualification/Experience: The prospective Hall Accountant/Bursar must be a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ghana or any IFAC member body with at least 2 years relevant postqualification working experience. A masters degree in accounting, finance, economics, management or administration shall be an added advantage.

These shall apply to the Hall Accountant or Bursar.
3.Hostel/Hall Accounts & Stores Officers
- Job description and reporting line: Hall Accounts and Stores Officers are to perform routine accounting and stores functions at the hall and report to the respective Hall Accountant/Bursar.
- Qualification/Experience: The prospective Hall Accounts and Stores Officers must have a good bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with at least 1 year working experience or must have the final certificate of Ghana Accounting Technicians qualification with at least 1 year working experience. Part qualification at the professional level of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ghana or any IFAC member body shall be an advantage.

These shall apply to the Hall Accounts and Stores Officers.
4.Hostel/Hall Administrative Assistants
- Job description and reporting line: Administrative Assistants are to perform routine administrative functions at the hall and report to the respective Hall Manager.
- Qualification/Experience: The prospective Hall Administrative Assistants must have a good bachelor’s degree in management, administration, hospitality, accounting, finance, home economics, economics, social sciences, nutrition/public health, or any related discipline with at least 1 year working experience.
- Benefits and conditions of service: For its Commercial Units, the GUSSS, UEW Branch operates with the Scheme of Service and the Conditions of Service for UEW Commercial Services for the purpose of determining employee benefits and conditions of service. These shall apply to the Hall Administrative Assistants
5.Hostel/Hall Front Desk Managers and Intelligence Officers
- Job description and reporting line: Hall Front Desk Managers and Intelligence Officers are to perform front office, students’ services, and quasi-intelligence work as well as basic administrative duties at the hall and report to the respective Hall Manager.
- Qualification/Experience: The prospective Hall Front Desk Managers must have a good bachelor’s degree in management, administration, hospitality, accounting, finance, home economics, economics, social sciences, law, security studies, or any related discipline with at least 1 year working experience.
- Benefits and conditions of service: For its Commercial Units, the GUSSS, UEW Branch operates with the Scheme of Service and the Conditions of Service for UEW Commercial Services for the purpose of determining employee benefits and conditions of service. These shall apply to the Hall Front Desk Managers and Intelligence Officers.
6.Artisans: Plumbers/Electricians/Carpenters
- Job description and reporting line: These artisans shall be responsible for all repairs and maintenance works at the hall under the direction, control, and supervision of the respective Hall Manager.
- Qualification/Experience: The prospective artisan must have at least NVTI qualification in the relevant area.
- Benefits and conditions of service: For its Commercial Units, the GUSSS, UEW Branch operates with the Scheme of Service and the Conditions of Service for UEW Commercial Services for the purpose of determining employee benefits and conditions of service. These shall apply to the Artisans at the Halls.
7.Security Guards
- Job description and reporting line: The security guards shall be responsible for general security and intelligence works at the GUSSS Commercial Centre. They shall monitor and control the movements of people and traffic as well as the parking of cars/vehicles. They shall report to the GUSSS Facility Manager.
- Qualification/Experience: The prospective security guard must have at least 3 credit passes in WASSCE including English Language with 1 year working experience or at least 5 credit passes in BECE including English Language with 5 years working experience in the security services.
- Benefits and conditions of service: For its Commercial Units, the GUSSS, UEW Branch operates with the Scheme of Service and the Conditions of Service for UEW Commercial Services for the purpose of determining employee benefits and conditions of service. These shall apply to the security guards.
8.Cleaners and Sanitation Officers
- Job description and reporting line: Cleaners shall be responsible for the total cleanliness of the GUSSS Hostels and the GUSSS Commercial Centre under the supervision of the respective Hall Managers and the Facility Manager.
- Qualification/Experience: The prospective cleaner must have at least 3 credit passes in BECE including English Language
- Benefits and conditions of service: For its Commercial Units, the GUSSS, UEW Branch operates with the Scheme of Service and the Conditions of Service for UEW Commercial Services for the purpose of determining employee benefits and conditions of service. These shall apply to the cleaners at the Hall.
